The 10 Guidelines at a Glance
Guideline 1 – Legal Compliance
All submitted works must comply with the applicable laws of the Federal Republic of Germany as well as applicable international legal standards. Artworks that depict, glorify or incite illegal acts — including but not limited to glorification of violence, incitement to hatred or the depiction of criminal content — will be strictly rejected.
Guideline 2 – Age-Appropriate Content and Protection from Distressing Material
Peculets is a publicly accessible platform aimed at a broad audience. All works must be entirely suitable for all ages. Explicit sexual depictions, extreme or glorifying representations of violence and pornographic content of any kind are not permitted.
Furthermore, Peculets will also reject works that — regardless of their formal classification under youth protection legislation — are liable to trigger traumatic reactions in viewers, particularly children and young people. This includes, among other things, pronounced horror motifs, explicit depictions of mutilation, psychologically threatening imagery or content designed to deliberately provoke fear and terror. The curatorial standard is not the law alone, but the wellbeing and protection of all viewers.
Guideline 3 – Respectful Conduct and Non-Discrimination
Art may provoke, challenge and reveal uncomfortable truths — but it must not deliberately cause harm. Works that are recognisably and intentionally offensive, defamatory or degrading towards individuals, social groups, ethnicities, religions or genders will be excluded from the platform. This expressly includes racism, antisemitism, sexism, homophobia and all forms of hate speech.
Guideline 4 – Political Content and Propaganda
The artistic engagement with political and social issues is a legitimate and valuable part of art history and is expressly welcome on Peculets. However, the platform must not be used for political propaganda, extremist messaging or as direct advertising space for political parties, movements or organisations. The boundary lies where a work ceases to be an artistic statement and becomes a political advertising tool.
Guideline 5 – Religious and Spiritual Motifs
Religious and spiritual motifs are generally permitted as artistic expression. Historical and narrative depictions — such as scenes from the lives of religious figures, religious architecture or cultural ceremonies — are welcome.
Not permitted are works intended primarily to serve as objects of religious veneration or worship, or that express the exercise of spiritual power over other people — regardless of whether that power is defined as positive, protective or "for good". This includes occult symbolism, satanic imagery, voodoo motifs and comparable depictions.
| Permitted |
Not permitted |
| Narrative scenes from the lives of religious figures (e.g. the Nativity, the Sermon on the Mount) |
Classical icons and devotional images intended for veneration |
| Religious architecture, landscape and cultural depictions |
Cult images of deities as objects of worship (e.g. Madonna images in devotional style, Hindu deities) |
| Abstract interpretation of spiritual or metaphysical themes |
Occult, satanic or voodoo symbolism with the aim of exercising spiritual power |
| Critical or reflective engagement with religion and spirituality |
Works explicitly designed for religious rituals or worship purposes |
Guideline 6 – Copyright and Intellectual Property
Only original, self-created works may be submitted. The infringement of copyright, trademark rights or third-party licences is strictly prohibited.
- No protected characters. The use of copyrighted characters (e.g. Disney, Marvel, Pokémon) is not permitted — not even as a reference or background motif, unless a verifiable licence exists.
- No copies of others' works. Direct copies or insignificantly altered reproductions of works by other artists are not permitted.
- No protected logos or trademarks as the central motif without the explicit permission of the rights holder.
- Authorship declaration. By submitting, the artist confirms being the sole author of the work and not infringing any third-party rights.
Guideline 7 – Manual Execution and Physical Originality
Peculets stands for the inseparable connection between physical craftsmanship and digital certification. The special paper is the canvas — and every canvas deserves a genuine handcrafted effort. All submitted works must be created by hand on Peculets special paper or at least substantially worked by hand.
- Accepted techniques: Painting (watercolour, acrylic, oil), drawing (pencil, ink, charcoal), printmaking (linocut, screen printing), mixed media, elaborate manual collages.
- Not accepted: Pure, unaltered prints of digitally created art (digital art prints) without significant additional physical reworking on the paper itself.
The work must bear a recognisable, independent physical hand.
Guideline 8 – Material Compatibility and Suitability for Shipping
The materials used must not compromise the integrity of the special paper and in particular the integrated NFC chip. Strongly corrosive substances and materials that permanently deform the paper or physically damage the chip must be avoided. The finished work must be shippable safely and without damage (flat or rolled). For questions about material compatibility, our support team is available in advance.
Guideline 9 – Use of AI-Assisted Tools
The use of AI tools in the planning and composition phase — for example for ideation, sketch development or image composition — is expressly permitted. However, the final execution and realisation of the work on Peculets special paper must be carried out entirely manually and by hand.
- Permitted: AI as an inspiration and planning tool for composition, colouring and design.
- Not permitted: The mere tracing, printing or transferring of an AI-generated image onto the paper without independent manual reworking.
The finished work must bear the unmistakable physical signature of the artist.
Guideline 10 – Curatorial Discretion
Peculets sees itself as a curated gallery with a clearly defined aesthetic and conceptual standard. We reserve the right to reject works that do not meet the platform's direction in terms of quality or concept, even if they do not explicitly violate Guidelines 1 to 9.
In such cases, the artist will be informed in writing of the rejection and the reasons for it. The return of the physical work is at the artist's expense. A refund of the paper costs is possible and will be decided following individual review by Peculets. The same applies to soft breaches of Guidelines 2, 7, 8 and 9, where the issue is a misjudgement by the artist rather than intentional wrongdoing. In the case of hard breaches of Guidelines 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, there is generally no entitlement to a refund.
